#1: Cable Costs Us Both a Lot of Money
Since you pay us for TV service, it might seem like we’re the ones who keep raising your cable rates. But, when it comes to your TV service and the price you pay, we’re actually just the middleman. In order for us to provide TV service, we have to pay the big networks for the right to broadcast cable programming to our customers. Unfortunately, the network giants know we’re dependent on them and continue to use their influence to drive cable rates higher and higher.
In fact, what we charge you is pretty close to what we’re charged ourselves. When you write us a check for the amount on your bill, we have to turn around and pay the big networks 80 to 85 percent of that bill.
The remaining 15 to 20 percent of your bill goes back into installation services and support. When you factor in what we pay our employees to install your cable box, the cost of those boxes, and maintaining the network to provide connectivity, we barely break even.
At the end of the day, the only people winning in the cable TV business are the big networks.

With the Internet in everyone’s pocket, we’ve become accustomed to accessing information wherever and whenever we want. The TV you pay for shouldn’t be any different. When you stream TV, you can access your programming from anywhere in the world on any Internet connected device. Conveniences aside, streaming services have cool features like recommending shows that are similar to others that you watch or even notifying you when a new episode or season is available.
