Network Engineer

This position is responsible for researching, designing and deploying IP technologies across a wide variety of network vendors and applications.  A successful candidate should have a deep understanding of Service Provider-related technologies such as:  Routing Protocols and technologies, Carrier Ethernet, Transport/Optical Technologies, Voice Services and Session Border Controllers.  He or she should also have a good understanding of common business/financial drivers and be capable of considering those impacts when developing strategies. The ability to be self-driven and multi-task several complex projects are also key attributes for a successful candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the configuration, implementation, administration and efficiency of IP, Access and Video Networks (e.g., ACS Management, Enterprise CPE, PON Technologies, Carrier-grade switching equipment and Optical Transport equipment)
  • Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches and hot fixes
  • Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability
  • Creating Method of Procedures for configuring, testing or otherwise modifying network elements, solutions or architectures
  • Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning
  • Developing documentation for testing, troubleshooting or administrating network devices or network architectures
  • Provide 24 x 7 Level-3 support and troubleshooting to resolve internal and external issues
  • Select and implement policies and procedures in conjunction with the Company’s core routing team to aid in troubleshooting efforts or supporting long-running network projects
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
  • All other duties, as assigned

Skills

  • Proven hands-on network engineering experience
  • Deep understanding of telecommunications standards (e.g., SS7, VoIP, Call Routing)
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools
  • Ability to analyze and present data and information in non-technical language, in written and oral form
  • Must possess strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate degree in IT-Telephony and/or four or more years’ equivalent work experience
  • Experience with U-Verse, FiOS, or other triple-play architectures including the associated underlying access, Ethernet, and/or transport network infrastructures
  • Experience with large-scale service provider Carrier Ethernet and/or core IP networks
  • Strong knowledge of service provider routing and/or transport architectures, including knowledge of commonly used network hardware vendors (Ribbon, Cisco, Fujitsu, Adtran, Calix, Coriant, Ciena, etc.)
  • Software development and/or scripting experience
