For example if your filter level is currently set to “3” (the default for MailHelper), and you wished any e-mails caught with a spam score of “8” (5 greater than your current filter level), you would select 5. Then any e-mails MailHelper caught with a spam score of 8 or greater would automatically be deleted and not appear in MailHelper at all. Please note, by default this option is Off (disabled) because some valid e-mails may end up caught in MailHelper and may have a rather high spam score simply because of the server they were sent from, subject of the e-mail, or content of the e-mail. If you set the engine to begin deleting e-mails and a valid e-mail is deleted because of it, there is no way to retrieve the deleted message.

MailHelper Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.)

I cannot log into MailHelper. It keeps telling me that my password is incorrect.

If you see the following screen while you are attempting to log into MailHelper, you have either mistyped your password or you do not actually have an account on the server.

faqInvalidLogin

If you continue to have problems logging in, please contact our Technical Assistance Center at 1-888-676-8638.

Why can I not see e-mails infected with viruses that MailHelper has caught?

MailHelper does not scan e-mails for viruses. This is completed by a scan performed before a message even reaches MailHelper to be scanned for spam. An e-mail containing a virus would not even reach MailHelper if it was infected with a virus and caught by our viral detection process.

Can I become infected by reading an e-mail quarantined in MailHelper?

While this is technically possible, it is very unlikely as any e-mails containing viruses are automatically deleted before even reaching MailHelper to avoid the risk of possible infection from interaction with e-mails containing viruses.

How does MailHelper decide if an e-mail is spam?

MailHelper is a mail filter which attempts to identify spam using a variety of mechanisms including text analysis, artificial intelligence filtering, DNS block-lists and collaborative filtering databases.

How does MailHelper detect if an e-mail contains a virus?

As explained above, MailHelper does not scan e-mails for viruses due to that being handled by a seperate scanning process which occurs before a message even reaches MailHelper.

How can I stop MailHelper from blocking messages which are not spam? (such as e-mails from friends/family/etc.)

If valid e-mails are being caught by MailHelper, you may allow these in one of three ways. You may deliver the message to your Inbox, add the sender’s e-mail address (or domain) to your Approved Senders List, or lower your MailHelper spam filter level until these e-mails no longer are caught and quarantined.

If you continue having problems with certain e-mails being caught in MailHelper, please contact our Technical Assistance Center at 1-888-676-8638.

I am still receiving spam in my Inbox. How can I make MailHelper stop these e-mails?

If you find that MailHelper is not catching all spam coming to your Inbox, you may help catch these e-mails in the future in several ways. You may add the sender’s e-mail address (or domain) to your Blocked Senders List, raise your spam filter level, or (if accessing your e-mail through Webmail) add the e-mail to your Spam folder.

If you continue receiving spam messages in your Inbox, please contact our Technical Assistance Center at 1-888-676-8638.

How do I deliver quarantined messages from MailHelper to my Inbox?

These steps are outlined in the Using MailHelper section of this help file.

If you have additional questions regarding delivering quarantined messages not covered in the steps outlined, please contact our Technical Assistance Center at 1-888-676-8638.

How can I delete quarantined messages in MailHelper?

The steps for deleting quarantined messages in MailHelper are found in the Using MailHelper section of this help file.

If you have other questions or problems with deleting quarantined messages in MailHelper, please contact our Technical Assistance Center at 1-888-676-8638.

How can I adjust the spam filter level in MailHelper?

Instructions for adjusting the spam filter level in MailHelper can be found in the Using MailHelper section of this help file.

If you have other questions regarding MailHelper’s spam filter not answered by this F.A.Q., please contact our Technical Assistance Center at 1-888-676-8638.

How do I view/hide message headers on a quarantined e-mail?

You may change the way in which message headers are shown on a quarantined e-mail by using the Headers toggle link in the upper-right corner of the quarantined message window, or by adjusting the Headers option in the MailHelper Preferences window.

If you have additional questions regardign message headers, please contact our Technical Assistance Center at 1-888-676-8638.

How do I change how a quarantined message's sender's email address is displayed?

Several ways for changing the sender’s e-mail address format may be found in the MailHelper Advanced Settings area of this help file.

If you have other questions regarding a sender’s e-mail address, please contact our Technical Assistance Center at 1-888-676-8638.

How can I change how many quarantined messages are displayed per page?

This is covered in the MailHelper Advanced Settings area of this help file.

Why does MailHelper ask me to log in again after I have been reading an e-mail or staying on one screen for a period of time? Can I stop this?

If you are asked to log in again suddenly after reading a quarantined e-mail or remaining on a screen in MailHelper for a period of time, it means your session has timed out and you will have to log in again. The length of time a session can be inactive before timing out is set to 10 minutes by default. However, you may increase (or decrease) this time by following the steps outlined in the Advanced Settings section.

What is MailHelper's Self-Learning Artificial Intelligence Engine?

The Self-Learning Artificial Intelligence Engine is integrated into MailHelper, learning through various conditions such as an e-mail’s spam score, approval of messages quarantined in MailHelper, and blocking of messages that arrive in your Inbox and are moved to your Spam folder through Webmail.

Though the Self-Learning Artificial Intelligence Engine will work without manually teaching or training it, the Engine is most effective when “taught” what to consider genuine e-mail vs. spam. For more information on teaching the Self-Learning Artificial Intelligence Engine, please see that area of this F.A.Q. in the mailhelper Advanced Settings.

How can I enable/disable MailHelper's Self-Learning Artificial Intelligence Engine?

The steps to enable/disable the Self-Learning Artificial Intelligence Engine are found in the MailHelper Advanced Settings area of this help file.

Can I "teach" MailHelper's Self-Learning Artificial Intelligence Engine to allow or block certain e-mails?

Yes. By default, whenever you approve the sender of a message in MailHelper, or when you deliver a message in MailHelper to your Inbox, the traits of that message are then learned as genuine e-mail and will be used by the Artificial Intelligence Engine when it encounters an e-mail with similar traits in the future to decide if the message is spam or not. If you move messages into the Spam folder found in Webmail, the traits of that message are learned as spam. Lastly, based on an e-mail’s spam score, the Self-Learning Artificial Intelligence Engine will learn certain e-mail’s traits as spam or genuine e-mail.

If you have additional questions not covered in the steps outlined, please contact our Technical Assistance Center at 1-888-676-8638.

What is a spam score?

A spam score is a value given to an e-mail based upon the e-mail’s traits (such as subject, body of message and the sender’s address). MailHelper’s Self-Learning Artificial Intelligence Engine gives these values to each e-mail that is sent to your e-mail address. Based on that value, the Self-Learning Artificial Intelligence Engine then determines if the message is spam or not. For example, if a message has a spam score of 12 or greater, it is considered spam. A message with a score of 0.1 or lower is considered genuine e-mail and not blocked.

How do I enable/disable MailHelper pop-up confirmation messages?

The instructions for enabling or disabling pop-up confirmation messages in MailHelper can be found in the MailHelper Advanced Settings area of this help file.

How do I enable/disable MailHelper notifications to my Inbox?
